prune picker

This is the blog of a prune picker. (Native born Californian) Retired oilfield. I am an old man. I blog a lot about my body and getting old. As I approach death life gets more interesting. More interesting is not good. I still drive. I attend sports, music, and civic events. I am writing my memoirs. I attend swim class three times a week. Some of my blogs might be interesting. A lot of my blogs are silly and trivial. None are very long.

Samoa Cookhouse.

Jim Spaulding took me to dinner at the Samoa Cookhouse in Samoa, California. The Samoa Cookhouse is the last surviving limber camp cookhouse in the West. Jackie and I were diners there in the 1990s. It looks just the same today.

There is a Logging Museum in the Cookhouse with lots of old photographs. I love old photographs. A comment on one photo stated that the tree was 27 feet across and that the saw was 28 feet long. Where do you buy a 28 foot saw?

We enjoyed dinner which is served family style, or cookhouse style. Sure was good!
