prune picker

This is the blog of a prune picker. (Native born Californian) Retired oilfield. I am an old man. I blog a lot about my body and getting old. As I approach death life gets more interesting. More interesting is not good. I still drive. I attend sports, music, and civic events. I am writing my memoirs. I attend swim class three times a week. Some of my blogs might be interesting. A lot of my blogs are silly and trivial. None are very long.

Gun and Knife Show.

I went to a gun and knife show yesterday, on Sunday, at the Ruston Civic Center. The center is behind the city hall. I took some pictures in front of city hall because it was a nice day and the landscaping included some pretty flowers.

The plaque has a list of Ruston people lost in wars.

I have been looking everywhere for a Canteen Lid Cork! This booth had a box full.

Ho- Hum Saturday.

Yesterday I really goofed around. I should stop goofing and get to packing. I spent an hour and a half at the Jefferson CornerSports Fan Club. Looked up some new words on google for the group. Eftsoons, rasher, whole nine yards, Lake Tawakoni, and the distance to a city in Texas. I have been designated to be the "check with google" man. Largely because I do it when any thing that can be googled comes up. I am a volunteer.

Then over to the Cook Street Park and take a walk.

Home for a blog.

Visit the Ruston Farmers Market for some pictures and then a blog.

At one o'clock go to the Techsters softball game. They blew out Nevada. See scoreboard. Game stopped when the Techsters were eight runs ahead. The Techsters had 15 hits.

After the softball game I went to the Lambright Recreation Center to walk on the air conditioned track for a half hour. While walking in and out of Lambright I noticed that the swimming pool was being well used. Both the indoor and the outdoor. I would have taken some pictures but was afraid that I would be called a dirty old man.

Then to the baseball diamond to see the Tech Bulldogs play Hawaii. It was a hot day. Only two out in the sun on tightwad hill, others were in the shade. We won the game.

The traditional after the game handshake.

Ruston Farmers Market. First Day.

Today was the first day of the Ruston Farmers Market. There was a good selection of produce and goodies. I thought that the turnout of customers was good. Lots of people coming and going.

Second Annual Swamp Ball.

Last Saturday I stumbled upon Tech students playing volleyball in mud. I posted some pictures and commented on the scene. I have found out that this was an organized activity by the campus Greek fraternities to have fun and raise money for a good cause. Twenty teams participated in the Swamp Ball and raised $1200 for a charity that benefits children with disabilities. My hat is off to the Greek Academy, a branch of the Inter-fraternity Council!

Certificate of Completion. Excel 2010 Level 1.

All I had to do to earn this certificate was to sit and listen and watch as David Hayes took us through a workbook. David is such a good instructor. I stayed awake all day.

Softball last night. Techsters vs Stephen F Austin.

Saw a good game last night. My seat was about 40 feet from first base.

My view of the field.

Peaking at the pitcher.

Notice that Stephen F Austin made less errors and a lot more runs. 9 to 3.

Nice bus.

Annual fish fry.

Good food, good company, good entertainment, and a beautiful evening. Complimentary annual fish fry furnished by the Tech program that conducts the swim class. Thank you Rhonda Boyd and Smiley Reeves and many others!

The old prune picker in the green shirt is in the registration line with son in law John and daughter Kerry. Photo courtesy of Skip Russell.

George and Joy. It was so good to see George again.

This is John Mathewes. John guided me into the Ruston POW Camp.

This man was worried about his privacy. So i will not say that he is Mike Fulton.

The famous Russell family, Skip, Carolyn, and Theresa.

Smiley Reeves is so shy, I could hardly get her to pose!

The dancing ladies returned for another performance.
