On April 11, 1678 the town of Wallingford, Connecticut appointed Samuel Munson to be a Searcher and Sealer of Leather. He was one of two people appointed to this office. Samuel Munson is my seventh great grandfather. A Sealer of Leather was primarily a quality control inspector of leather. Samuel was a shoe maker and knew leather. He was also one of the original signers of the charter creating Wallingford.
I have always had a special feeling for leather.

Oh wow. Samuel is my ninth great-grandfather, and while I knew he was a shoemaker and tanner, I didn't realize such an appointment existed. Thank you for sharing!
