The first thing built in a Puritan Colonial New England village was the meeting-house. This was both the meeting place of the government and the church. These two bodies were much the same as the society was theocratic. There was religious freedom as long as you were a Puritan.
As a carpenter Thomas was involved in the building and the maintenance of the New Haven meeting-house in 1639..
