prune picker

This is the blog of a prune picker. (Native born Californian) Retired oilfield. I am an old man. I blog a lot about my body and getting old. As I approach death life gets more interesting. More interesting is not good. I still drive. I attend sports, music, and civic events. I am writing my memoirs. I attend swim class three times a week. Some of my blogs might be interesting. A lot of my blogs are silly and trivial. None are very long.

Coach EJ Lewis and his recruit from Jennings.

My son in law John Adams and retired Louisiana Tech Coach EJ Lewis. In 1967 EJ came to John's home in Jennings, Louisiana to recruit John for the Tech football team. Hearing that John's Mom was a Music Director, EJ sat down at the piano to play and sing. Later on a trip to Ruston John went hunting and fishing with the Duck Commander, who was then the Tech quarterback. That was enough to convince John to sign up for the Tech football team. Later John played in the first game in the just built Tech stadium. Terry Bradshaw threw the first touch down pass in the Tech stadium while John was in the game.

The picture below is of Coach EJ and his recruits from southern parts of Louisiana. Can you recognize EJ and John? Hint. Both are second from the right.

Memories from 45 years ago. The top picture was taken this morning at the Waffle House in Ruston.
