prune picker

This is the blog of a prune picker. (Native born Californian) Retired oilfield. I am an old man. I blog a lot about my body and getting old. As I approach death life gets more interesting. More interesting is not good. I still drive. I attend sports, music, and civic events. I am writing my memoirs. I attend swim class three times a week. Some of my blogs might be interesting. A lot of my blogs are silly and trivial. None are very long.

(RV 30) To the heart of the Smokies.

We drove 281 miles from Hohenwald, TN to Knoxville, TN. Then 47 miles to Pigeon Forge. The home of Dolly Parton, Dollywood, and discount shopping stores. Jackie loved it. Dolly was closed for the season,  darn it. Our appointment with the Ranger who took us on as volunteers at a park within the Great Smoky National Park was in Waynesville. Waynesville is considered to be in the center of the Smoky Mountains.

Waynesville is off the map to the east of Maggie Valley. We drove up into the mountains to see where we would be stationed. We drove up a small dirt road with very tight curves. Jackie and I decided that we would not take the job due to the very difficult road. Our trailer was 37 feet long. We sadly told the Ranger. We now had some spare time before we were due at Acadia National Park in Maine. We decided to go RVing.

We stayed in Waynesville a week. This is a very scenic and interesting area. We made many trips. Maggie Valley, so pretty. Cherokee, watch out there are Indians and Indian souvenirs everywhere. Cades Cove, many historic buildings of early settlers. Appalachian Trail. I walked it for a hundred feet.

Jackie at the point the North Carolina State Line crosses Highway 441. At about the center of the Grreat Smoky National Park.

The Prune Picker a hundred feet down the Appalachian Trail.

The most visited national park in the US is the Great Smoky National Park. A visit here will  help you to see why this is so,
