From Indian River we drove to Mackinaw City and over the Mackinac Bridge.
I did not tell Jackie but I was scared going over the bridge. It is almost 600 feet above the water. Two football fields high.
We drove west 162 miles to the ghost town of Fayette, MI. An old abandoned town that once housed a pig iron factory.
306 miles to the Wisconsin Dells.
A tourist destination par excellance. We rode the Ducks in the Dells.
On to Fox River, Illinois. 215 miles. Adjacent to Chicago. We took a tour of the the city.
Nearby was the Starved Rock State Park. A sad Indian story.
237 miles to Cool Creek, Illinois and then 305 miles to Cloud Nine RV Park, Missouri.
While we were at Cloud Nine we drove down to Mountain View, Arkansas. Big disappointment. Grandpa Jones was not at his restaurant.
Then to Branson. 94 miles. And the start of a life long affair between Branson and Jackie and I. In 1987 Shoji Tabucchi was the openning act for a lady singer on the strip.
Shoji played the violin standing on his head. On our next trip to Branson Shoji had a big fancy theater with the worlds fanciest restrooms. Each basin in the lady's room had an orchid.
390 miles to Lake Texoma, Texas. From there it was 291 miles to Walnut Creek. Got home September 29, 1987. What a trip!
