prune picker

This is the blog of a prune picker. (Native born Californian) Retired oilfield. I am an old man. I blog a lot about my body and getting old. As I approach death life gets more interesting. More interesting is not good. I still drive. I attend sports, music, and civic events. I am writing my memoirs. I attend swim class three times a week. Some of my blogs might be interesting. A lot of my blogs are silly and trivial. None are very long.

Sadness.

Sadness is ok. Sadness is normal. Who could see his wife, oldest son, favored grandson, and eight siblings pass away and not be sad? I love them all.

Sadness is a big part of my life. This is one reason why I attend so many functions. I have built a schedule that requires my attendance. And also my thought. Otherwise I would sit and stare at the wall. As busy as I keep myself, I still spend time in a funk.

Even in the middle of my busy life I get so sad. Sometimes I feel that life is all over for me. Then I get up and go somewhere or exercise or write.

I am so grateful to my family and others that I believe  sense my malaise and try to help. Bless you all and thanks from the bottom of my heart.

It is possible to be happy and yet very sad at the same time. I am, a lot.

  1. Sadness certainly is a part of life...even a good one, which yours has been. Fortunately, you have a lot of sweet memories, too. I'm so glad that you have so many people nearby who love you. And I'm here loving you and thinking of you from afar.

  2. Hey Mr. Chuck,

There are so many people that love you that would quickly argue that life is not all over for you, or at least, not done with you. You are loved and needed so just keep on keepin' on, my friend. Here is a good quote for you from one of the great minds of our time.

"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." - Dr. Seuss

It sure was a nice surprise to have you stop by the shop the other day. I have been following your blog for a long time now and I have a ton of questions for you. Maybe one day we can have a longer visit and I can ask you a few of them. I will look forward to it.

    Love,
    Andrea (A.B.)
