prune picker

This is the blog of a prune picker. (Native born Californian) Retired oilfield. I am an old man. I blog a lot about my body and getting old. As I approach death life gets more interesting. More interesting is not good. I still drive. I attend sports, music, and civic events. I am writing my memoirs. I attend swim class three times a week. Some of my blogs might be interesting. A lot of my blogs are silly and trivial. None are very long.

A summer at Arcadia National Park.

It was a summer Jackie and I treasured. We parked our fifth wheel trailer at the park headquarters. We worked as volunteers for the park for 3 1/2 months. Jackie worked in the reception center and I worked in the sign shop.

The park hak has many miles of trails. There were several hundred trail heads and intersections. I made the signs shown in the picture. Day after day.

This is Jackie standing by a sign post. Notice that the post is held up with rocks. The terrain at this point was all rock. Acres of rock like on the top of Cadillac Mountain. To mark a trail the park placed rock cairns at intervals. Sometimes arrows were painted on the rock.

  1. I've always loved Acadia. Always wanted to make signs like this for my property. Did you use a hand router? Or is it a computer controlled router?

    1. Penciled the letters on the sign and then used a hand router. Acadia is a wonderful place.
