prune picker

This is the blog of a prune picker. (Native born Californian) Retired oilfield. I am an old man. I blog a lot about my body and getting old. As I approach death life gets more interesting. More interesting is not good. I still drive. I attend sports, music, and civic events. I am writing my memoirs. I attend swim class three times a week. Some of my blogs might be interesting. A lot of my blogs are silly and trivial. None are very long.

I never did get to a Rose Bowl Parade.

I was born and raised in Southern California. Jackie and I and our four children lived within a few miles of the parade route several times for years. One time we were visiting friends in the San Fernando Valley. My oldest daughter Nancy and her then steady boy friend Bob Wright went over to the route and spent the night on the sidewalk to see the parade the next day. I was thrilled for her and Bob.

The closest that I came to the parade was a visit to the parked floats the day after the parade. We were able to walk around the floats and walk up to them. The floats were beautiful. I wonder if my children remember that day.

The school that I attended (Cal Poly) has a float in the parade every year. Their float this year won first place as the most beautiful non commercial float.

The float is designed and built by the Cal Poly students. Pictured is the 2015 float.
