prune picker
This is the blog of a prune picker. (Native born Californian) Retired oilfield. I am an old man. I blog a lot about my body and getting old. As I approach death life gets more interesting. More interesting is not good. I still drive. I attend sports, music, and civic events. I am writing my memoirs. I attend swim class three times a week. Some of my blogs might be interesting. A lot of my blogs are silly and trivial. None are very long.

Jennings High football player signs to play for Louisiana Tech.
This picture was taken in the front room of the Adams family home in Jennings, Louisiana. John Morgan Adams is seated in the center signing up. Seated with him is his proud Mom and Dad. Standing is the Tech Coach EJ Lewis and the Jennings High School Coach Hudson. I am a little late reporting this event. It took place 45 years ago in 1967. But I liked the picture. It is a good picture of John and his parents.
The picture below of John and EJ is a little more recent. It was taken in 2012. John and EJ both live in Ruston and see each other often.
Volleyball. Techsters vs San Jose State.
Last night on tight shoe night I went to see the Techsters play San Jose State. They lost three straight but the games were exciting as the scores were close through most of the games. There was a small crowd. Well under a hundred.
Tech warms up.
San Jose is ready.
Send me in, coach. I am fine except for my left leg and left hand.

2012 Chicken Fest in Dubach, Louisiana.
Dubach is a center of the chicken business and the Dog Trot Capital of the World.
Good music !
King and Queen of the parade.
Mr Chicken throwing candy.
Lot of noise when they fired their guns.
Boy with iPad.
This is my three year old great grandson Christian Newberry watching a movie on a iPad. Now a days I notice that even if children's programs are playing on the large screen TV any children in the area will be (at the same time) watching a movie on an iphone or iPad. Sort of a double feature movie all the time.
I have always loved movies. When I was a child I got to see (if my sister Jean gave me a dime) movies at the theater on Saturdays for a couple of hours. How I loved movies! I envy kids today.

Mucking out the Koi Pond.
John has a big job on his hands. His Koi Pond leaks. He moved all the fish into a livestock water tank. Now he mucking all the gunk out of the pond prior to installing a new liner.
Wonder if the muck is good for the garden.
Pumping out the last dregs.
Now to mop out and smooth the bottom to prepare for a new liner.
Five raccoons
Five raccoons on the porch last night. The word about the left over cat food is getting out. The group looked like a mom and pop and three youngsters.

Volleyball. Techsters vs Utah State.
An exciting two hours even if we lost 3 games to 1. It was sorority night so the place was really noisy. You know how teen age girls are.
Don't you think the Utah girl on the left is a little short? She was a good player.
We have a new coach. The man in the black shirt.
Deer at John's front door !
How could this be? A buck standing within a few feet of John's front door. Looks like a six pointer.
John has a game camera on his deer feeder in the backyard. I wonder if this buck will be in any of the pictures.
John has four more game cameras that he is getting ready to take out to the Arcadia 500 acre lease. John told me last night that he enjoys looking at the game camera pictures. He said it is like hunting, but you do not have to shoot the deer. Just capture them on film.

Recent beautiful pictures from Wyoming.
My grand daughter Corrie Faith posted these pictures on Facebook. She and her dog Celia are in one of the pictures below. Thank you Corrie.
An Empty Chair and a Poem for Rhonda's Father.
At her wedding Rhonda had an empty chair placed in the front row, next to her Mother's chair in honor of her Father. Rhonda's Father passed away several years ago close to the time that my wife Jackie passed away.
Rhonda's Mother, Rosa Lee Blakley, is in the red top in the front row. On her right is an empty chair for Rhonda's Father Marvin Blakley.
When I checked into the Wisteria Inn there was a bag for me. It contained two jiggers of vodka, a bag of seashells, and a box. The box contained some moss and a poem.

This is the poem.
Death leaves a heartache
no one can heal, love
leaves a memory no one
can steal. I miss you daddy!
I know your looking over us
all today and everyday.

Wisteria Inn, Panama City Beach, Florida.
I stayed here when I attended the nuptials of Rhonda and Michael. It is a unique motel (Inn is a better name.) in a picturesque setting. Across the street from the beach.
