We played the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. We won 11 to 6.
The view down Tech Avenue on the way to the diamond.
Fair crowd on Tightwad Hill.
Pretty day for a baseball game.
Whole lot of hand shaking going on.
prune picker
This is the blog of a prune picker. (Native born Californian) Retired oilfield. I am an old man. I blog a lot about my body and getting old. As I approach death life gets more interesting. More interesting is not good. I still drive. I attend sports, music, and civic events. I am writing my memoirs. I attend swim class three times a week. Some of my blogs might be interesting. A lot of my blogs are silly and trivial. None are very long.

Bury Saint Edmund, Suffolk, England.
I am a history junkie. It is fascinating and exciting to me that I will stand on the ground where the rule of trial by jury was born, or at least nourished. This place could be considered to be the birthplace of our American Constitution. The nobles of England met here in 1214 and swore to force their King to sign a document, the Magna Carta, that listed several dozen rights that the King was obligated to give his subjects. The King did not intend to honor the document and it took years of conflict to validate the document. We are still watching and on occasion have to straighten out the executive branch (King) of our government. Could it be true that eternal vigilance is the price of freedom?
In the eleventh and twelfth century the abbey at the shrine of Saint Edmund was one of the largest in Europe. The abbey owned a third of Suffolk. The reformation ended the power of the abbey.
For a lot of my life I have read about the Magna Carta. The signing was the next year, 1215, in a meadow at Runnymede.
Johnny Lynn Miller visited over the weekend.
Johnny is my great grand daughter who lives in Franklinton, Louisiana. She ran up to me and said that she was dressed like a LADY. And indeed she was! A 2 1/2 year old lady.

Yes, that is a pear tree in bloom in February.
3 pm Skip the men's basketball game in favor of a nap.
5 pm Wild game dinner at Cook Baptist. Sure good food.
7 pm Lady Techsters beat the Lady Aggies from New Mexico 64 to 50.
I believe that is three meals out, one baseball game, and two basketball games. That will qualify for a busy Saturday! Today is going to be not so busy. A Sunday Brunch with John's Sunday School Class and only one baseball game.

Do I have a lisinopril cough?
I cough a lot. For several years I also thought that I was losing lung capacity. Lately the cough is leaving me weak and not feeling very good. I recently had a visit with my doctor, Dr Jacquelin Carter, at the VA Clinic in Monroe. She prescribed ten days of anti biotic. She is going to change my gerd medicine and advised me to double my present gerd medicine until I receive the new gerd medicine.
But startling to me was the comment by Dr Carter that one of my heart prescriptions quite often can cause coughing. The medicine is lisinopril. If you google "lisinopril" one of the top picks is "lisinopril cough". If I am still coughing in two weeks Dr Carter will try something to replace lisinopril. Lisinopril relaxes your veins so that your blood pressure is lowered. However in some folks it causes stuff in your lungs and this stuff can cause a persistent cough. I was beginning to think that my cough was not caused by having a cold. I thought...asthma? Maybe it is better that it is caused by lisinopril.
80 days to my trip to England/France with my daughter Nancy. Need to get the cough fixed and my lungs up to steam.

Ross's 8th Birthday Party at Burger King.
My great grandson Ross John Newberry was 8 years old yesterday. He requested that his party dinner be at Burger King.
There was a pretty sunset in West Monroe last night. Ross requested a double Whopper.
Ross almost ate all of his double Whopper. Then back home for presents.
Even the kitty enjoyed opening presents.
Ross had such a big dinner that he could not eat Birthday Cookie.
It sure was a good party. I stayed awake for almost all of it. That couch was sure comfortable.

The 3 Musketeers attend WW II Luncheon.
Robert Rinehart, Tommy Ledford, and Chuck Monson were driven by John Adams over to Barksdale Air Force Base to attend a luncheon honoring WW II veterans today. They really enjoyed themselves and had a good time.
In this picture. Chuck, Robert, and Tommy.
There were speakers, a band, lunch, cakes, and an arch of swords. Also a free cap and a tee shirt!
John doubled as a photographer and took this picture of Chuck on TV.

I missed four basketball games last week end because of my mysterious cough. But I went and saw the last half of a game last night. Boy, did Tech look good. It was a five tuba game. I heard the band do the humble song.
It takes practice to do this!

Dr Aeneas Munson, distant cousin.
Dr Aeneas Munson was a prominent citizen in New Haven, Connecticut during and after the Revolutionary War. He was a president of the Connecticut Medical Society and a professor at the Yale Medical School from its founding until his death. He served as a military surgeon in the siege of Yorktown.
He received the following letter from Nathan Hale.
A Letter from Nathan Hale to Dr. Aeneas Munson in New Haven
New London, November 20, 1774
Sir,
I am happily situated here. I love my employment: find many
friends among strangers: have time for scientific study, and seem to fill the place assigned me with satisfaction. I have a school of more than thirty boys to instruct, about half of them in latin; and my salary is satisfactory. During the summer I had a morning class of young ladies—about a score—from five to seven o’clock, so you see my time is pretty fully occupied, profitably I hope to my pupils and to their teacher.
Please accept for yourself and Mrs. Munson the grateful thanks of one who will always remember the kindness he ever experienced whenever he visited your abode.
Your friend, Nathan Hale
Nathan joined the Revolutionary Army and was hanged by the English for spying. He is the brave young man who stated that his only regret was that he had only one life to lose for his country.

Studying like mad for my trip to England and France.
I have google to help me study for the trip that my daughter Nancy and I are taking on May 15. (That is 83 days from today, but as Nancy stated "who is counting?")
I have been furnished several travel books by Nancy and grand daughter Joy.

Notice the book marks. Three books on England and two on France. It is fun and exciting going over the walks and sights ahead! I read for awhile and then I google for awhile. I am learning a lot of history.

Bucket truck get together.
Entergy was replacing an important power line pole across from Jefferson Corner. The pole is important to Ruston service and Entergy was replacing it to be sure that the pole was in good shape. Power smoothing regulators were also installed. I thought the three buckets made an interesting picture. There was a fourth truck standing by.

Have you ever felt loved?
Often when I go over to John and Kerry's after dinner these two greet me.
They also love each other. I enjoy watching them nuzzle each other.
They are Felix the cat and Midnight the dog. They usually make up to me and let me scratch and pet them.

Lovely lunch with lovely ladies.
Jewette and Sue Farley carried four happy people out to the Squire Creek Country Club for brunch today. I was so happy to be one of the four along with Blakley ladies Rosa, Tina, and Rhonda.
