prune picker

This is the blog of a prune picker. (Native born Californian) Retired oilfield. I am an old man. I blog a lot about my body and getting old. As I approach death life gets more interesting. More interesting is not good. I still drive. I attend sports, music, and civic events. I am writing my memoirs. I attend swim class three times a week. Some of my blogs might be interesting. A lot of my blogs are silly and trivial. None are very long.

Decided to fly. Latest plans for trip to Washington.

I have toured the west coast from Ruston, Louisiana three times. I know just what it takes. About 15 days of driving. Checking in and out of a couple dozen motels. Carry bags into the homes of friends and relatives. That is the main reason that I have previously driven. To see the many friends and relatives on the route. It is good to see them.

However the old prune picker (as I lovingly call myself) is getting old. I do not think that I have a lot of 12 hours of driving days left. I have decided to fly. I must admit that I felt relieved when I made that decision. I will reduce the hectic tour of a month or two to a two week trip with just a day or two of driving.

I will fly into Seattle.

My grandson Matt will meet me and help get me to the Wright Family reunion on Orcas Island. Matt lives in Woodenville, Washington. I will never forget the joy that Matt brought into my life, 47 years ago, when he was born. The birth of Matt made me a grandfather. I loved it. It was so very exciting. Matt is a joy.

After a week (My 90th birthday is the Monday of that week) on Orcas Island I plan to spend a week at a motel in Port Townsend. (Harborside Inn).

I will visit the Evergreen Coho Resort daily. (morning coffee and bingo). My wife Jackie and I helped build the resort for 17 years. Many memories. Many good friends.

I will leave Ruston on July 17 and return on August 2. I will return an older (90) and (wiser?) man.

102 days to my 90th birthday.
