prune picker

This is the blog of a prune picker. (Native born Californian) Retired oilfield. I am an old man. I blog a lot about my body and getting old. As I approach death life gets more interesting. More interesting is not good. I still drive. I attend sports, music, and civic events. I am writing my memoirs. I attend swim class three times a week. Some of my blogs might be interesting. A lot of my blogs are silly and trivial. None are very long.

Unionville, Louisiana.

The Unionville General  Store has seen better days but is still highly regarded.. It is located between Ruston and Dubach.

There are thousands of Colvin's in this area.

This group of citizens were meeting at the store for coffee this Saturday morning. They had attended a 50 year reunion of Dubach High School last night. They were remembering playing on the Dubach High School Baseball Team in 1963.

  1. Hello Mr. Chuck,
One of our best friends, Kayla, grew up in this store. Her Mamaw, (her mother's mother), ran the store. She was a Colvin by marriage, I think. This would have been in the late 70's and early 80's. Kayla's dad added the "new" restroom addition. I am not sure what year that was. Kayla has lots of great stories about that old store and the people who frequented it. I am pretty sure it is one of her uncles that opens it up for the "coffee meetings". Like most memories from our childhood, she says that the store seems so small when she goes in it now. I am glad to know that even though it looks like it has seen better days, someone still cares about it and still uses it as a place to gather together and swap stories. I bet the old building likes that and will hold on longer because of it.

    Love and Hugs,
    A.B.
