prune picker

This is the blog of a prune picker. (Native born Californian) Retired oilfield. I am an old man. I blog a lot about my body and getting old. As I approach death life gets more interesting. More interesting is not good. I still drive. I attend sports, music, and civic events. I am writing my memoirs. I attend swim class three times a week. Some of my blogs might be interesting. A lot of my blogs are silly and trivial. None are very long.

National Outhouse Races.

I was able to attend some of the National Outhouse Races in Choudrant, Louisiana yesterday. I was able to visit the outhouse racer pits before the races and get these pictures.

I would like to point out these outhouse racers are approved and sanctioned by NORA. They must have at least three wheels and one potty hole in operating condition.

The races drew plenty of attention in this area. Above is a picture of the reporter/cameraman from the FOX TV station who covered the event. The Ruston paper covered the event on the front page of the Sunday paper.

One of the qualifying heats.

The racers reach a speed of 23 mph. However, various improvements to increase the speed are being developed. I would have stayed for the finals but the heat and lack of shade caused me to retreat to the Lady Techsters Volleyball Tournament in the air-conditioned basketball stadium. The Techsters won the tournament.
