prune picker

This is the blog of a prune picker. (Native born Californian) Retired oilfield. I am an old man. I blog a lot about my body and getting old. As I approach death life gets more interesting. More interesting is not good. I still drive. I attend sports, music, and civic events. I am writing my memoirs. I attend swim class three times a week. Some of my blogs might be interesting. A lot of my blogs are silly and trivial. None are very long.

Sunday, October 12, 2014 Meeting of the Northeast Louisiana Genealogical and Historical Society.

Chuck Rand was the speaker. His subject was "The Flags of the Confederacy". Chuck is a graduate Mechanical Engineer and Historian. I thought that was an interesting combination. I am a graduate Mechanical Engineer and I have had a life long interest in history. When I was studying engineering in college one of my elective courses was "The History of Western Europe". I took it for the fun of it.

Chuck was a dynamic speaker and knew his subject cold. He had a stack of folded maps a foot high. As he unfolded them he gave a detailed history of the map.

The flag above is the battle flag of the Army of North Virginia. There were three official flags of the Confederacy. This flag is not one of them. However, today it is considered the Confederate Flag.
