prune picker

This is the blog of a prune picker. (Native born Californian) Retired oilfield. I am an old man. I blog a lot about my body and getting old. As I approach death life gets more interesting. More interesting is not good. I still drive. I attend sports, music, and civic events. I am writing my memoirs. I attend swim class three times a week. Some of my blogs might be interesting. A lot of my blogs are silly and trivial. None are very long.

July 2, 2013 was sort of an early Fourth of July.

An hour and fifteen minutes at the Jefferson Corner Liars Club, an hour and a half at the VFW for breakfast, a half hour walking in the Cook Street Park withTommy Boddie and Rhonda Blakley and three hours at the Senior Center for a fish fry and a patriotic program. I had to take time out for a nap in the middle of all this activity.

A view of the VFW porch from under a crepe myrtle tree.
A  look back at the tree. Ruston is covered with these beautiful trees right now.

JD gave each vet a goody bag from the VFW Post Auxiliary. The card said "Thanks for your service."

And what goodies! Oreo cookies. peanuts, candy, chips, and a banana. Worth going overseas for, huh?

Henry Roane cooked the fish for the Senior Center July 4th Fish Fry. Henry is vice president of the Council on Aging Board of Directors and a good guy.

Good turn out. What is it about free food?

Rachel can really sing! Acapela.

It was a nice program complete with bingo and exercise and the singing of patriotic songs.

There is a patriotic program at Temple Baptist the next two nights but I have to get some rest.
