Prune picker

Prune picker is a Depression Era term for a native Californian. It was not a complement. In the thirties when I was a boy there were times that I was the only prune picker in a group. Everyone else had been born somewhere else.

Margaret Shadow. The little old lady from Pasadena.

I had a nice visit today with Margaret. I enjoyed seeing her lovely home.

Margaret's daughter Anita Lawson is staying with Margaret. Her dog Dixie is a lot of company.

Sure would like to see the red car at the Senior Center. Take my word for it but the plate on the front of the car has these words on it. Little old lady from Pasadena.

Margaret was born in Santa Monica in 1914. She moved to Ruston in 1936 and has lived here since then. She is a sharp bridge player and a dear friend.

  1. Dear Prune Picker,

We hate to sound so harsh, but is Margaret still living? I am a reporter with our local newspaper here in Ohio and she has become somewhat of a local celebrity and we would like to interview her.
