prune picker

This is the blog of a prune picker. (Native born Californian) Retired oilfield. I am an old man. I blog a lot about my body and getting old. As I approach death life gets more interesting. More interesting is not good. I still drive. I attend sports, music, and civic events. I am writing my memoirs. I attend swim class three times a week. Some of my blogs might be interesting. A lot of my blogs are silly and trivial. None are very long.

Free Fridays

For many years it has been customary for Fort Warden to a have a free one hour show at noon on six to eight Fridays during the summer. Jackie and I used to go to every one. For years it was held downtown on a lawn behind a bakery/cafe named "Bread and Roses". Some 8 to 9 years ago, after they built a new dining hall at the Fort they moved Free Fridays to the lawn next to the new hall. I believe that the name of the bakery has been changed.

Yesterday I attended Free Friday again. There two acts. First the Soda Ranch Ramblers from New Mexico.

Then the Carr Family. The Carrs have been attending Fiddle Tunes at Fort Warden since the seventies. Their children grew up going to Fiddle Tunes.

Mr Carr played the bagpipes.

Their daughter and son sang solos.

Mr Carr accompanied a tune with his shoes on a sounding board.

Mrs Carr along with playing the keyboard played castanets. I guess you play castanets.

The show was attended by a large and enthusiastic group.

Some sat in a high spot next to the road. It looked like "Tightwad Hill". But you really can not call it that at a free show.
