prune picker

This is the blog of a prune picker. (Native born Californian) Retired oilfield. I am an old man. I blog a lot about my body and getting old. As I approach death life gets more interesting. More interesting is not good. I still drive. I attend sports, music, and civic events. I am writing my memoirs. I attend swim class three times a week. Some of my blogs might be interesting. A lot of my blogs are silly and trivial. None are very long.

Choctaw Code-talkers.

My wife Jackie was 1/4 Choctaw, my children are 1/8. I have been researching some Choctaw history. If I am up to it I may make a trip to Oklahoma Choctaw country this fall. I would like to visit the Ireton Cemetery in Alex, Oklahoma. That is Jackie's Father's people.

I had the impression that the Navajo Indians were the first and only Indian code-talkers. They fought in the Pacific and there was a movie made of their exploits. I was surprised to find that Choctaw soldiers in World War I in France actually were the first code-talkers. They used the Choctaw language.

There is a monument in honor on their World War I Service in Tuskahoma, Oklahoma. I may visit the Memorial if I make the fall trip to Alex.

My children should be proud of their Choctaw heritage.
