One of my larger crowds was one night at a Society of Petroleum Engineers Meeting in Orcutt. I spoke on log interpretation with particular reference to the newly issued Schlumberger Log Interpretation Chart books. The talk was very well attended. I had no idea that my fame as a lecturer on log interpretation was so wide spread. People were up from Ventura and Santa Barbara. Down from King City and San Ardo. After my talk they turned down the lights and showed a pornographic film. I had no idea that I was the opening act for a porno movie.
I do not think that my talk was the main draw for the large audience.
A basic chart from the chart book is the resistivity of saline water plotted vs temperature.
The diagonal lines are for salt water of different salt concentrations. It indicates how the resistivity varies with temperature. If you get a sample of water from a zone the chart will tell you the resistivity of the formation water at depth. This value is of great importance in log interpretation. Remember Archie's Law?
