Bury St Edmunds

Edmunds was the last Anglo Saxon king of Suffolk. In the 900s the Danes cut his head off. He was shortly made a Saint and an Abbey was built and named Bury St Edmunds. The abbey grew to be one of the biggest and richest abbeys in Europe. Henry the VIII put an end to that and it is now ruins There is a large and beautiful Cathedral on the site.
