Cowhide Thrower.

This is a statue of a man throwing a cowhide over a cliff. It is at Dana Point where Richard Henry Dana threw cowhides over the cliff in 1835. Dana told of his adventures in the book "Two years before the mast".

The hides were called California greenbacks because they were worth about a dollar. The hide was worth more than the meat.
