Ruston VFW to make bid on a building.

I attended the VFW Meeting today. (Had a great lunch).

During the business meeting Post Officers Tommie Speights and JD Harper reported on a possible building to serve as a new Post Building. Our present building is about to fall over!

The building is owned by a local company who just moved into a new office building. The business would like to get rid of the building. The building would easily handle our needs. It was moved to make a bid on the building. After our meeting several members drove out to look at the building. It is located near the National Guard facility.

Lots of fun, lots of laughter, door prices, lots of music, and a free lunch!. That is my kind of place. I am a member of the Northern Louisiana Medical Center and was happy to be at the party. Tami Davis is the Senior Circle Advisor. She is a nice live wire and knows how to throw a party!

I attended a program on "The Orphan Trains"

The program was given at yesterdays meeting of the Northeast Louisiana Genealogical and Historical Society. I was familiar with the story of the Orphan Trains but appreciated the program.

The Orphan Train story is the story of a very large American experiment. Due to unsettled times and massive numbers of immigrants there were large numbers of orphans in the United States. It is estimated that there were 30,000 homeless children on the streets of New York in the 1850s. Between 1853 and 1930 some 250,000 homeless children were put on trains and sent from New York and the East to the mid West to be placed in homes needing labor. Many were adopted. I am somewhat familiar with what the children went through. I was placed in institutional boys homes twice as a young boy. I ran away from one in the middle of the night.

I only cried two or three times during the program.

 

I attended a lecture on Civil War Medicine.

It was a very good interesting lecture. I really enjoyed it. I wanted to show them my bullet wounds from WW II but did not see an opportunity.

Dr Tom Pressly gave the lecture. He is a rheumatologist in Shreveport. He is an expert on Civil War medical practices. He has an extensive collection of historic medical tools.

Doctor Tom said 800,000 died during the Civil War. Different authorities have different estimates.

Tech lost the first game and then proceeded to win three games in a row to win the match. Yeah! Here are some photos from the evening and a time-lapse video of the first game.

The meds in my life.

This is a list of the meds that I take at the present time. Thirteen different drugs and vitamins. Eleven doses every morning and ten every evening. That is 21 a day and 147 per week.

It takes 20 to 30 minutes every week to load my weekly dose box.

These are the pills for tomorrow morning. It probably takes five minutes to take my pills. My esophagus problem requires that I take care swallowing. (I have had trouble swallowing my meds.)

I estimate that it takes an hour and a half every week to prepare and take my meds. Seems to be worth it.

Exciting month for those that are interested in my blood pressure and stuff.

I watched football in the rain. (great grandson Ross and Hurricane Harvey)

John and I drove over to West Monroe to see my great grandson Ross John Newberry play (he is center linebacker) a football game. Harvey, the Hurricane from Texas, was due in West Monroe about game time. Harvey was a little late but arrived in time to soak me, John, and Ross's, Mom and Dad, Joy and David. All of us will always remember the football game in the rain from Hurricane Harvey.

Terrible score board. We lost 24 to 20. It was a good exciting game otherwise. I think that we were the better team.

I caught Ross for a photo after the game.  I do not think that he was too excited about having his picture taken after losing a game! But he gave me a gracious smile. Thanks, Ross.
