prune picker

This is the blog of a prune picker. (Native born Californian) Retired oilfield. I am an old man. I blog a lot about my body and getting old. As I approach death life gets more interesting. More interesting is not good. I still drive. I attend sports, music, and civic events. I am writing my memoirs. I attend swim class three times a week. Some of my blogs might be interesting. A lot of my blogs are silly and trivial. None are very long.

Ouachita Council on Aging Bazaar.

I attended the Ouachita Council on Aging Bazaar at the Carolyn Rose Strauss Senior Center in Monroe.

The buildings of the center are impressive. There were many items for sale. Even a bowel of gumbo.

I was not familiar with the word "servery". Good word,

Good name for a place where stuff is served.

1 pm football game.

My great grandson Ross had a football game today. Good old number 57. His team barely missed getting in the super bowel. There was a very enthusiastic group of parents on hand. Some parents get very intense.

Prune picker beard. Week 5.

I moved to Louisiana with a shaved head. Look at me now. Some of my Louisiana friends say that I look like a hippy. I tell them that I had my hair cut in back. They say "yes, but it came out your chin!"

Feeder scene.

My son in law, John has placed a deer feeder about a 100 feet from the deck of the new house. He has installed a game camera. The camera pictures indicate that deer feed at the feeder at all times of the day and night. One picture showed four deer. There are three raccoons in another picture. John, Kerry and I are excited at the prospect of watching deer so close to the house. The feeder is in view from all of the windows on the back of the house.

Almost won a volleyball game last night.

I have watched the Techster Volleyball team loose nine straight games. Last night they played Nevada and almost won one game. They tied for the lead three times at the end of the second game, but just could not win. They are improving.

Part of the enthusiastic crowd last night.

Samstown in Shreveport.

This is a view of the Samstown Casino from across the Red River. Five years ago next February, Jackie and I visited this casino. Five weeks after the visit Jackie passed away. I have not been in a casino since that visit. Jackie had a royal flush that day that paid $1000. She liked that.

Good report from the eye doctor.

Had an appointment with the eye doctor at the VA Hospital in Shreveport. He said my glaucoma was stable, that I did not need a new prescription, that my reading problem was from dry eye. He is sending me some tear solution and said I did not need to return to the eye clinic for a year.

I went by the Bass Pro Shop for a hot dog.

Notice sign over the door. I showed them my credentials from the Jefferson Corner Liars Club and they welcomed me in!

A diver was in the fish tank cleaning up.

It did not seem to bother this guy.

Techster Exhibition Basketball Game.

The Techsters basketball team played their first game of the season last night. Arkansas Monticello was their opponents. The Techsters looked good and won big. 79 to 52.

The band, cheerleaders and pep squad were present.

Some scenes from the evening.

I only have three great grand daughters. (Six great grand sons.)

I am so thankful for them. They are Winter and Holly Wrock who live in Woodenville, Washington. Winter is 5 and Holly is 2, (almost 3)

My other great grand daughter is Johnny Miller who lives in Franklinton, Louisiana. She is two.

I am sure lucky and blessed! I love my great grand daughters!

Black Gum?

Walked this morning with Nolan Coleman. I was taking a picture of my pretty red tree which has almost dropped all of it's leaves when he walked up. Poor Nolan! He had showed up to walk with me and the Blakley Ladies.  However they were busy at Jefferson Corner. So Nolan had to walk with me.

This how the tree looked last week.

Nolan thought the tree is a Black Gum. I came home and checked my little Golden Book on the Trees of North America. The book agreed with Nolan. Must be a good book.
