Free Fridays at the Fort.

Today was my last Free Friday at the Fort. I leave here next Thursday the 22nd. The entertainment was the Hot Club Sandwich. They have been playing together for eight years. They are really good. They seem to really enjoy what they are doing and to like each other. I had seen them before I moved from Washington.

Sleepy Otter Quilts & Crafts

The lady in the pic is Jackie Aman. I first met her in 1990.  She was the Rhonda of Chimacum and worked at the Chevron Station and Store in downtown Chimacum. She occasionally opened the door for me very early in the morning. She is a real sweet hard working lady. Like Rhonda she will hug me at the drop of a hat. I feel lucky to know these ladies. (I introduced Rhonda of Jefferson Corner in a previous blog.)

Jackie has a lovely shop in downtown Port Townsend. The shop sells quilts. Business has declined in the current recession and she will have to close. That is a shame because she has enjoyed her business.  She is going to keep her website at www.sleepyotterquilts.com however, and will continue to sell quilts and supplies.

Port Hadlock Lawn Mower Races

I went to the races the other day. The Port Hadlock International Lawn Mower Races. You can see by the pics that this is great race meet. Contestants come from other states and countries. Speeds of 27 mile per hour are often attained on the straight away.

Hood Canal Floating Bridge opens for tall sail boat.

Top pic shows floating bridge open and a sail boat approaching. In the second pic boat has almost cleared the bridge. Third pic shows the boat is past the bridge. Bottom pic is from the roadway at just about where the bridge opens. Traffic backed up several miles during this operation.

The Hood Canal is a fjord formed by a glacier 13, 000 years ago. It was named in 1792 in honor of Admiral Lord Samuel Hood.

The bridge withstands 16 1/2 foot tides.

Two Grandson Visit

It was so good to be visited by the Sammamish People and Drew. We had lunch at "Dogs a Foot", walked a couple of blocks, and adjourned to the "Elevated Ice Cream" for cones. It was good to see Drew after a two years. I will see him again when I get to Modesto in a few weeks.

Matt will be 42 on his birthday today 7/11/10.  Happy Birthday to a great guy! I have been a grandfather for 42 years!

Dogs a Foot

This a pic of the best hot dog stand. "Dogs a Foot" in downtown Port Townsend under the Bull Durham painting.

While blogging I am waiting for a visit from two grandsons. It is not everyday I get a visit from two grandsons. Drew Monson from Modesto is visiting his cousin Matt Wrock in Sammamish. Drew, Matt and his family, Janelle, Winter, and Holly will be here any moment. This little motorhome will be full!

I am very happy and excited.

Friday Noon Show at Fiddle Tunes

Today was the Friday Show at Fort Warden Commons. It was part of the Fiddle Tunes week. Next week is chamber music. The Mac Cray Sisters played and three young ladies danced. The last pic is of two Cajun fiddlers. Imagine, I came all the way from Cajun-land to hear two fiddlers from Cajun-land!

The Town Posse

This is a scene in La Conner, Washington. I stayed one night in the motel in the background. The wild turkeys are the permanent guests of the town and are called the town posse. I was a little surprised to see them downtown.

Morning Walk

Standing by the Litter Control sign is my walking buddy, Bill Friel from Las Cruces. Bill and his wife Lorie arrived at the park on July 1 like I did. Bill and I and another friend, Jim Spaulding from Vacaville used to walk 1 1/2 miles real early. Jim is not coming up to the park any more. Bill and I walk about 30 minutes a little later in the morning. Bill just had two more stints installed, he is two up on me.
