Must win soccer game.

The soccer game last night was a must win situation for the Lady Techsters. If they lost, their season was over and they went home. If they win, they go with eight teams to post season games. They won! Florida Atlantic was tough. The game went to the end with no score. Zero to zero.

Tech won in a sudden death play off. I was sitting on the grass near the score. It was exciting.

Tough game.

An injury.

The players celebrate their victory.

Fans do the one finger salute while the alma mater is played. (Index finger pointing up.) They are telling the world that Louisiana Tech is number one.

More chicken photographs.

I was sitting in the gazebo reading the papers.

Then the chickens came to visit me. One hopped into the chair beside me. Wondering about the news, I guess.

Here are some beauty shots of the ladies passing by. Did I mention that we are gathering two eggs a day?

All seven chickens gathered at at the water fountain pool.

ESOPHAGOGASTRODUODENOSCOPY

I had one of these today. I had it to have my esophagus stretched.  I have trouble swallowing. This is the fourth time that I have had my esophagus stretched. The first time was in 2002. I have had trouble swallowing for a long time. Stretching might help my swallowing for a while. I do not think that I will go through this again.

John was my driver. We left home at 5:45 am and drove to the VA in Shreveport.

I recognized the row of cots in the get ready room. I was told to take off everything above my waist and put it in a bag. A man down the line was told to take off everything except his socks. I asked the nurse how come. Yes they sometime do both ends in one trip. I hope that they do not get mixed up.

A fish fry at Lake Bruin, Louisiana.

Lake Bruin is an oxbow lake that was formed when a meander of the Mississippi River was separated from the Mississippi.

It is located across the Mississippi from Natchez. About an hour south of Talulah.

You can see it on the map above. It is in the center of the map to the Northwest of the Mississippi. It is a beautiful lake. It looks like a river, which was a while ago. In 1937 (I was 12) the electric company built a fishing camp on the north shore. There is a large building and several cabins. They must be full of memories for many electric company employees. It is still in use 77 years after being built.

John Adams as a retiree from the company can rent it. He did this last weekend and invited his daughter Joy and the Newberry family and his wife and me to a fish fry.

It was so good. Much fun playing and sitting in the yard. We all had a good time. Thank you, John!

The day ended with a huge bonfire which was enjoyed by all present.

Yes all of that wood was consumed by the fire. Fun!

Your heart is pumping like the heart of a teenager!

I have been having sieges of very low blood pressure that bothered me. (Vision and dizzy)

I commented to my doctor. I am so fortunate to have her as my doctor. She is Dr Jacqueline Carter. She is with the VA in Monroe. I have been seeing her for seven years. She set up several tests and made several changes in my treatment. Reduced a heart medicine dosage, added a water pill, and prescribed compression stockings.

The tests were a stress test, heart echogram, carotid artery exam, and an esophagus exam. The stress test indicated my heart was pumping good but had a few blockages.

She called after the heart echogram and made the comment "your heart is pumping like a teenager".

I tend to have low blood pressure but it has not been a problem since I started the water pill.

Below is a table of my vital signs. Columns are date, steps, weight, blood pressure and pulse. I am adding temperature.

Notice my static weight. Do not seem to be able to get below 240.

Cytogenetics

The study of cells, particularly the chromosomes. How much DNA is there in a cell? Six feet. That is equivalent to 10,000 miles of spaghetti in a basketball sized container. Lots of information.

I attended a lecture today at Louisiana Tech. The lecture was given by Dr Virginia Thurston.

Dr Thurston is a graduate of Tech who went on to obtaining a doctorate and years of experience in medical genetics. Her talk was very informative, I understood some of it.

Nice lecture hall.

Justin is usually looking at a sports event like this.

I was interested in the talk because of my exposure to the use of DNA signatures in genealogy.
